Nigeria’s main political parties are in the thick of their primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections. That politicians can still manage to hold primaries in the midst of a worsening wave of horrendous attacks on communities and kidnappings in parts of the country, not to mention the economic hardship, suggests we must be living in different worlds.

The nurses at Al Shifa Hospital in Makkah are well-trained, diligent and passionate about their work. They are very active as well. When I started to come around — returning to this world through the gate of the other world — I imagined the hospital as an army unit and the nurses as soldiers. Mostly Egyptians, they were active, agile young men aged between 23 and 35.

'Is Nigeria laying the foundation for future prosperity, or entrenching obligations that may outlive the benefits they were meant to create?'

Since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, Nigeria’s debt profile has undergone a dramatic transformation. What began as a fiscal adjustment strategy following subsidy removal has quickly escalated into one of the most aggressive borrowing cycles in the country’s history.

I love Arsenal fans. I sometimes think there can’t be many of them who won’t make good spouses or lifetime friends.

I had earlier spoken about intubation. It is a medical procedure involving the insertion of a flexible plastic tube into the trachea (windpipe) through the mouth or nose to maintain an open airway, deliver oxygen, or facilitate mechanical ventilation (life-support machine). It is used during emergencies, critical care, or anaesthesia to ensure gas exchange when a patient cannot breathe independently. Or, as in my case, where there is respiratory failure/distress: when a patient cannot breathe sufficiently on their own because of severe pneumonia or COPD.

Inevitable deaths are in the offing in 2027. Those familiar with Nigeria’s electoral mythology, history and patterns, know that 2027 general elections will be a harbinger of death, powered by electoral violence. It will take a miracle to escape what will playout. People will die. Nigerians will perish.

I want to believe Allah (SWT) brought me back to read my scorecard. He does that whenever He wants. All the more reason to forgive those who transgressed against you and seek forgiveness from those you have hurt. Importantly, to continue doing the good things one has been doing for humanity, as Dr Imdad of Al Shifa Hospital told me.

The next British general election is in 2029, but you could already feel the tremor from the council election of May 7.

The surge of Nigel Farage’s Reform UK Party is the clearest warning sign yet that Prime Minister Keir Starmer is living on borrowed time. The Labour Party is divided, its influence weakened, and Starmer’s days in Number 10 are numbered.

The former Labour Party presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi, thinks he is Nigeria’s most misunderstood politician. Why is it hard for us to see that his serial party flipping is not a sign of desperation but a tactic of survival for our own good? Why, even though he has flipped political parties five times in three election cycles, should he be compared to Vice President Atiku Abubakar in political vagrancy? Who is chasing Obi and his new soulmate, former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso? There are three possible answers.

Listening to Kenyan President William Ruto diss Nigerians with a smile from faraway Italy, one would think he had taken a page from Amos Tutuola’s The Palm-Wine Drinkard. It was obvious that Ruto assumed Nigerians spoke that variety of unconventional English rendered by Tutuola in his story of magical realism from Yoruba mythology.
