I have watched with disgust and utter disappointment, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo's vicious and vile vendetta against Mr. Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, for the 2027 presidential election in Nigeria. Mr. Peter Obi has not for a moment ceased to extend his usual courtesies and respect to Prof. Soludo at any given opportunity even as Prof. Soludo is on his vituperations on Obi.
Prof. Soludo has been hiding under the cover of supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to vent his animosity on Mr. Peter Obi.

Whenever I look back and reflect on the Ebonyi State story, I raise my eyes to heaven, raise my glasses to cheer, I raise my shoulders in pride. It is a story that breaks the heart, mends, and gladdens it all at once. It is a song of desolation, consolation, rejuvenation and exaltation in one fell swoop. Ebonyi is a tale only understood by the tellers.

You would probably say, who cares if the ruling APC is reduced to the size of a corner pub. But it matters if you love the country. It matters a lot if you are troubled by the mess Nigeria has become at the moment. And the point is that if the All Progressives Congress had remained intact as it was in the Buhari era, the presidency would not have been the raggedly shop it is today.

If South Africa needed any serious signal that the mobs roaming the streets of its cities and townships in search of immigrants were a disgrace, the FIFA World Cup in June 2026, provided a large screen.

On 15 July 2026, Chief Aremo Olusegun (Segun) Osoba turned 87. For many Nigerians, the occasion is an opportunity to celebrate an accomplished journalist, former Governor of Ogun State, elder statesman and one of the country's most respected public figures. For those of us in the Nigerian Guild of Editors, however, it is also a moment to celebrate something even more enduring—a man who, despite attaining the highest levels of public service, never severed his bond with the profession that made him. If I were to describe him in one sentence, I would simply say: Aremo Segun Osoba is an editor who never left the Guild.

As I cruised along the Alfred Rewane Road, Ikoyi last week, I tuned the radio and the evergreen song of Dr. Victor Olaiya, one of Nigeria’s legendary highlife musicians, came on air. The lyrics of the song goes thus: “Ilu le o/Ko s’owo l’ode/Okunrin n k’igbe/Obirin n k’igbe/ Kaluku l’o n k’igbe owo.” Translated, it means: “Things are hard/There is no money anywhere/ Males are crying/Females are crying/Everyone is crying for money.” The theme is that of economic hardship, inflation, high cost of living, and the daily struggle of everyone in search of money or survival.

Sometime this year, I was alerted to the presence of an owl perching on the PHCN line overlooking my apartment. And so what, I asked! The response I got shocked me: Don’t you know that owls are evil birds? I quickly jumped out of bed! I really never knew anything about owls. I went to my window and saw it. I began to “bind and cast.” I followed this up by picking up a stone and going after it. It flew away before I could reach it. Days later, the owl appeared again. I went after it again with prayer and action. Again, it flew away before I could reach it. Every night afterwards I checked the PHCN line before going to bed and whenever I woke up in the night. There was no sight of it. Still, I prayed.

Here we are once more, on the verge of electing our representatives for the eighth time in our current democratic journey. This journey, or the Fourth Republic, has outlasted the first three, and we are now in the eighth cycle of campaigns, manifesto presentations, and promises. These are the preludes to the elections.

Scripture says from the mouth of two or three witnesses the truth of a matter is established (Deuteronomy 19: 15; Matthew 18: 16; 2Corinthians 13: 1). So, today I bring another testimony to the so-called 1951 cross-carpeting saga in the Western Region House of Assembly. Taken from Wikipedia, it contains more details than what was published here last week. It reads:
