The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the result of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Statement signed by Azeez Sani, Acting Director, Information and Public Relations, made available to journalists in Minna indicated that a total of, 186, 291 candidates registered for the examinations in 12 subjects.
The candidates were drawn from the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja and five foreign countries he did not mention their names.
Sani said the examination which commenced on 20th April, 2026 was successfully concluded on the 30th of April, 2026.
Results of the examination was released following successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee meeting which took place at NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger state capital.
During the meeting, the Chairperson of the Award Committee, Dr. (Mrs) Folake Olatunji David, Director, Basic Education, Federal Ministry of Education, who represented the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the processes leading to the successful release of the result.
The Award Committee meeting, according to the statement was also attended by some Secondary School Principals from across Nigeria and NECO Management.
Meanwhile, the Award Committee he said has approved the date and time for the 2026 BECE re-sit examination, scheduled to hold on 22nd and 23rd July, 2026 for Mathematics and English.
The BECE Re-sit examination is conducted for candidates that have conditional deficiencies in Mathematics or English language or both.
Sani further hinted that the re-sit examination is to enable affected candidates remedy whatever deficiencies they have in Mathematics and English Studies without which they will not gain the necessary certification for admission and placements into Senior Secondary School (SSS1) without repeating full academic year.
