Countdown to the 2027 general elections, security agencies in Niger state have uncovered criminal syndicates who specializes in producing and selling fake Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and National Identification Numbers (NINs) to unsuspecting public.
The criminal syndicates, according to findings have manufactured and sold at least 189 PVCs N2, 000 each and 105 NINs at N1, 000 each to unsuspecting public in Munya and Wushishi Local Government Areas (LGAs) respectively.
It was further gathered that within June 2026 alone, the groups reportedly raked in about ₦3 million from their illicit business, one of the suspects, 42-year-old Mohammed Aliyu Buba who was arrested within Minna metropolis confessed.
Police operatives stormed the residence of Mohammed Baba along Angwan-Sarki area, where he was found in possession of dozens of the fake documents.
Niger state Police Commissioner, Abdullahi Adamu Elleman who confirmed the breakthrough in ending the manufacturing of the fake cards, said: “During a search in his house, a total of 105 fake NIN and 189 PVCs were recovered".
"We discovered that the suspect specializes in producing fake PVCs for unsuspecting members of the public particularly communities in Wushishi and Munya local government areas”.
The suspect admitted to haven so far produced over 1,000 fake PVCs and already made millions of Naira from the fraudulent scheme".
Elleman who attributed the successes in making Niger state uninhabitable to criminals attributed the feat to the unwavering commitments of officers and men of the Command displaying high level of professionalism in the discharge of their duty. NNL.
