• Nigeria @ 60: CELEBRATION OF INDEPENDENT DAY NOT OCCASION FOR BLAMING PAST LEADERS ...Gov Bala Muhammed

By Mahmoud Dogara (Bauchi State Correspondent)

As Nigeria celebrates her 60th Independent anniversary today, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has cautioned that the occasion was for trading of blames on past leaders, but to extol them.

Bala Muhammed gave the advice on Thursday during a parley with stakeholders in the state, comprising of women and youths, to mark the celebration of the 60 Independent anniversary, held at the Command guest house in Bauchi.

The governor said although his administration inherited a lot of challenges from his predecessor, his administration has formulated a lot of policies and Programmes to move the state forward in a manner that infrastructural and service gaps will be addressed.

"The celebration of independence is not an occasion for blame-game, where we will be blaming the past leaders, but an occasion to extol them.We are just fellow heroes in this journey, where we come and contribute our own quota. Bauchi is large and surrounded with seven states. Our population is increasing because we are the only solidarity defence, the sanctuary of peace within the region that is enveloped in terrorism of Boko Haram, but we have continued to provide succour and solace.

"In doing that, our infrastructure have been overstretched, our schools cannot accommodate our people, our roads have been abandoned because they have been subjected to excessive use and our hospitals have been abandoned. This is the situation we have inherited and today, we are approaching this as a government, certainly and slowly, looking at all the dimensional challenges that we have" he said

The Bauchi Governor also restated the commitment of his administration to provide employment for the teeming youths in the state next year, saying that his government is freeing resources to create more job opportunities.

"Bauchi state has 1.4 million out of school children, some of them are unable to go to school because of lack of classrooms and their parents cannot afford to send them to school, that is why we are rebuild all our primary Schools that have been abandoned for many years. We are building new ones and today, we have over 300 new schools and renovated 500 in the state. This is the way to go, to show that there is a new approach" he added.

Muhammed however called on the youths in the state to be good citizens and to eschew all forms of criminality, saying that his administration have them in mind and is ready to work with them. NNL.
