Governorship flagbearer of the Action Alliance (AA) in the Saturday, November 6 gubernatorial election in Anambra state, Chief Ben Etiaba, has denied as false and "laughable", an article allegedly being circulated in the media, claiming that he and some other governorship candidates were planning to endorse the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, as consensus candidate for the election.
In a statement on Monday, October 18, 2021, by the Director of Communications, Ben Etiaba Campaign Organization (BECO), Ifeanacho Atusiubah, Etiaba described the said article as that sponsored by some "faceless campaign busy bodies'.
The offending article, according to the Campaign Group of the leading guber contender, Etiaba said the candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Senator Ifeanyi Uba, Maduka, and other party candidates, will soon endorse Prof Soludo as Consensus Candidate for the governorship election.
The statement read thus: "The attention of ‘IFE ANAMBRA’, the Ben Etiaba Campaign Organization has been drawn to the very "LAUGHABLE!" article being sponsored by some faceless ‘campaign busy bodies’ claiming that our esteemed campaign organization is negotiating to collapse into the politically drowning APGA platform. "Let it be known that whereas we would have let this piece of laughable falsehood go unanswered, it is however incumbent on us to speak to our base, and to the great people of Anambra State who have been following our most innovative campaign over the last few months, that Action Alliance, Chief Ben Etiaba FCA, and Mrs. Regina Uchebo stoutly remain committed to taking over the reins of office from Governor Willie Obiano FCA.
"No amount of blackmail will distract us as we remain committed to taking our great Anambra State out of darkness and into the light.
"Anambra needs a HUMBLE selfless leader who knows that the State is badly broken, and needs healing. Action Alliance and our obviously outstanding candidate remain committed to healing our State. Anambra State remains the light of the Nation". NNL.
