Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has appealed to philanthropists and stakeholders in Bauchi State to support the Nigerian Legion as he launched the 2026 Armed Forces and Remembrance Celebration Emblem Appeal Week.
The event, held on Monday at the Government House, Bauchi, saw donations of more than ₦12 million announced on behalf of the state government, the three arms of government and other contributors.
Speaking through his deputy, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau, the governor said generous donations would help provide care and support for ex-servicemen and families of fallen heroes who defended Nigeria during major conflicts.
He described the annual remembrance celebration as a symbol of national gratitude to members of the Armed Forces who sacrificed their comfort and lives for the country’s survival as one indivisible nation.
Governor Mohammed said the Bauchi State Government has consistently supported legionnaires by offering employment opportunities, poverty alleviation schemes and other social interventions.
He assured that the government would sustain its support to ease the hardships faced by retired servicemen and their families, stressing the need for collective responsibility.
Responding, the Bauchi State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Garba Itas, lauded the administration’s support and assured continued cooperation with the government to promote peace and security in the state. NNL.
