A former Special Adviser to the Imo State Governor on Orientation Agency, Chief (Dr) Fidel Onyeneke, has appealed to Nigerians to always protect public facilities within their localities in order not to retard the developmental growth of the Society.

Onyeneke who made the appeal in Owerri last Thursday, said that the masses should ensure the maximal use of the public utilities in order to further enhance their well-being.

He observed with dismay that the people often regard public installations as no man's property even when they are procured with the Tax-payers money. Onyeneke condemned the incessant vandalization of Electricity, water, roads and other infrastructural projects especially in the rural areas.

The former Special Adviser stressed that rather than destroying them, the Communities should learn to the facilities to better use for the benefit of the residents. He cautioned against the destruction of Schools and Hospital buildings in some places, describing such acts as criminal and lack of patriotism.

Chief Onyeneke urged the Traditional Rulers, Town Unions Presidents and other Community Leaders, to fashion out best ways of securing all the expensive public installations in their domain in the interest of progress and development of the country

He appealed to the various state governments to regularly conduct Needs Assessment of the Communities, with a view to providing the appropriate dividends of democracy for the citizens. NNL.
