Activities of the dreaded security outfit code named Ebube Agu, formed and armed by the Ebonyi state government, have allegedly continued to generate concern among the people of Ebonyi state.
On Sunday, January 23, 2022, in Akaeze community of Ivo local government of the state where the former Senate President and a 2023 Presidential aspirant, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim hails from, the youths of the area have allegedly risen in a spontaneous protest to condemn the recent killing of one Nnaogo Akpoke Anyim on January 18 by the Ebube Agu outfit.
According to an eye witness, the genesis of the crisis, was as a result of a land dispute between the deceased Nnaogo and one Engr Ajuomeiwe over a piece of land. However, one Chief Jerry Obasi, a Chief from Akaeze, said that while the deceased Nnaogu was of the PDP, Aju Omeiwe was of the APC.
The Ebube Agu security outfit which was said to have been apparently invited by the APC chieftain, allegedly tortured the PDP Nnaogo to death. The gruesome murder of Nnaogo, according to Obasi, provoked the youths of the community to anger and they embarked on protest to the house of the chairman of the Council.
Unfortunately, the protest turned gory as one of the protesters, named Elueke Okor was allegedly killed in the melee. According to other sources which was also collaborated by Obasi himself, the chairman of Ivo local government council, one Onyebuchi Ogbadu, whose house the protesters were said to be marching to, was fingered as the one who allegedly shot and killed the deceased.
According to Obasi, "this is the graphics of one of the PDP stalwarts from Umobor ward on a peaceful protest to the house of the Ivo LG chairman by name Elueke Okor shot dead by the Council Chairman himself". Obasi also quoting an eyewitness, said he narrated "the primary cause of the inferno which was as a result of a minor disagreement between one Nnagor by name who happens to be a PDP member and one Engr Ajuomiwe an APC member.
"Incidentally members of the Ebubeagu who are of the APC arrested and brutally tortured the PDP boy to death. The gruesome murder of Nnagor, the PDP guy, caused anger and outrage in the entire community of Akaeze in Ivo LGA of Ebonyi State", he said, adding that "As we speak, there are lots of dead bodies and wounded persons lying critically helpless in different hospitals in Akaeze and in neighboring communities.
"To make matters worse, Obasi lamented that "the military deployed to Akaeze in cahoots with the Ebubeagu vigilante are now manhandling and maltreating innocent natives on the instructions of the APC led Ebonyi state government".
The situation, according to sources, has caused a lot of panic in the area that churches and other worship centres have closed, with worshippers scampering for their dear lives. NNL.
