Nigerian University students and their parents heaved a sigh of relief as the National Industrial Court, on Wednesday, ordered the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to return to the classroom without further delay.

The court directive, will, expectedly, bring to an end the seven months of industrial action embarked upon by ASUU which consequently shut down most of the nation's public Universities.

All efforts by both the Federal Government and ASUU and the various stakeholders to resolve the strike impasse based on the alleged contentious 2009 agreement between ASUU and the government ended in a fiasco.

The Federal Government, through the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Nwabueze Ngige, last week, initiated legal action against ASUU at the National Industrial Court, to adjudicate the matter.

In the said suit, the Federal Government prayed to the labour court for an order for ASUU to call off its seven months elongated strike. The action was by way of referral to amicably settle the strike issue. NNL.
