Ahead of the global celebration of the Eid-el-Fitri Muslim festival which begins Friday, April 21, 2023, President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, on Thursday, confirms the sighting of new moon which heralds the Sallah festival.
Abubakar who is also the Sultan of Sokoto, made this confirmation in his Palace in Sokoto on Thursday evening. He said he has therefore declared Friday April 21, 2023 as the Shawwal 1 (Sallah Day) for the Nigerian Muslim faithfuls.
The Sultan disclosed that approval for the commencement of the Eid-el-Fitri was given after the confirmation of the siting of the moon which is known as the crescent of Shawwal.
The commencement of Sallah signals the beginning of of the Eid-el-Fitri festival for the Nigerian Muslims who have fasted during the Ramadan season for almost 30 days. NNL.
