The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on Sunday August 8, 2021, announced the immediate suspension of the proposed sit-at-home order imposed by the group and scheduled to commence in the South East zone, Rivers and Delta states tomorrow, Monday August 9, 2021.

According to the pro-Biafra group, the suspension was due to the National Examination Council, NECO, examination for junior secondary schools. It however stated that a new date for the commencement of the sit-at-home order would be announced later.

IPOB in a statement by the younger brother of its detained leader, Kanunta Kanu, said the group decided to put on hold the planned sit-at-home exercise following several pleas from well-meaning Igbo individuals and bodies, that the order would disrupt the participation of students in the NECO examination in Igboland.

The IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's brother, said in the statement thus: “IPOB has listened to pleas from well-meaning individuals and groups within and outside Biafra land that we consider the fate of our children who will be involved in the NECO Exam and based on that, we decided to shift grounds over the sit-at-home order.”

“IPOB having realized the academic deprivation the already marginalized Biafra students who entered for this year’s NECO would suffer, decided to suspend the sit-at-home order to a later date, to allow the students to take their examinations.

IPOB had recently announced a solidarity sit-at-home directive, two weeks ago, with the detained leader of the pro-Biafra group, Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently being held at the facility of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja on the orders of Hon. Justice Binta Murtala Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

According IPOB's directive, the sit-at-home order would be observed every Monday from this week Monday, August 9, 2021, throughout the Igbo-speaking states of South East Zone, Rivers and Delta states, pending the release of Kanu from detention. NNL.
