- * Describes Trending Report As Fake, Fiction
By Junaid Makarfi (Kaduna State Correspondent)
Following trending media report insinuating that Kaduna State has been surreptitiously renamed as Zazzau State, the Kaduna State government has debunked such news report, describing it as pure 'fake' and 'fiction', designed by the purveyors of the story.
Making this clarification on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, the Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Kaduna state governor, Muyiwa Adekeye, said in a statement that contrary to that report, Kaduna state had not been renamed. He stated that the information was fake and misleading to members of the public, and urged the citizens of Kaduna State to ignore it as mere fiction.
Adekeye warned thus in the statement: “Please ignore the elaborate piece of fiction that made the claim. It is fake news".
According to the trending report in some online portals, it claimed that the National Assembly had passed a bill renaming Kaduna State. It further stated that even the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, had forwarded it to President Muhammadu Buhari for his assent into law.
The said 'fake' news claimed that the questionable bill was allegedly co-sponsored by Senator Suleiman Abdu Kwari and Senator Uba Sani of Kaduna Central District which got the approval of 13 House of Representatives members out of 15 members representing various federal constituencies of Kaduna State.
“The bill was deliberated in the Red Chamber and got 2/3 support of the Senate. It quoted also the clerk of the National Assembly, Ojo Amos, as saying that 123 Civil Organisations from different parts of Kaduna State who supported the name change of the state to Zazzau said the new name was in tandem with the history of culture of the people of the state.
“Now that the President Buhari has signed the name change into law, it will be reflected in the amendment of the 1999 constitution,” the statement said.
Senator representing Kaduna Central, Senator Uba Sani, in his reaction to this development, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the report was nothing but pure lie from the pit of hell. He expressed disappointment at what he described as concocted, subversive, malicious and false information circulating in the social media claiming that President Muhammadu Buhari had even signed into law the bill for the creation of Zazzau State.
Senator Uba stated that the claim that he co-sponsored the purported bill in the Senate with his colleague, Senator Sulaiman Abdu Kwari, was completely lacking in substance and truth. Uba wondered how individuals would fabricate stories of that magnitude, yet people would not critically dissect such story.
“My immediate reaction to this outrageous and patently false piece of information is to wonder how mischievous elements can allow their imaginations to run riot, all in a bid to undermine their political opponent. How can people go to the extent of planning to destabilise their own state and worsen the insecurity situation,” Senator Uba Sani stated. (With additional information from NAN). NNL.
