Governor of Niger state, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has applauded the medical team of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) Specialist Hospital, Minna for successfully conducting the first brain surgery and knee replacement.
The feat showcases the Bago led administration's commitments to encourage professionals in the health sector to strive for the best in their career and breaking new frontiers expected to reduce to the barest minimal medical tourism abroad.
A theatre team led by a Consultant Neurosurgeon, Dr. Uthman Uthman, successfully performed first brain surgery in the Hospital on a 19-year-old male, who sustained severe brain injury and skull fracture.
Also, a surgical team led by Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Abdullahi Mohammad and Dr. Mustapha Ibrahim conducted the first total knee replacement surgery on a 65-year-old woman suffering from bilateral advanced osteoarthritis.
Both patients, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Bala Waziri said are responding to treatment at the newly upgraded and remodelled amenity wing of the Specialist hospital.
The Governor who is said to be excited by the uncommon breakthrough in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, described the feat as a milestone achievement in the history of his administration.
Revamping the health sector which included, the remodelling and upgrading IBB Specialist hospital wasn't a mean feat but a necessity that the administration took with boldness to guarantee efficient medical services to Nigerlites, and also aimed at ending medical trips abroad.
The Governor commended the management under the CMD, Dr. Bala Waziri, for the significant milestone and reassured of commitments of his administration to provide the needed support to enable the health institution break more new frontiers.
IBB Specialist hospital, Minna which started as an orthopedic facility is currently being upgraded and expanded with state-of-the-art equipments to meet the health needs of citizens. NNL
