Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has performed the inauguration of 500 newly trained cadets and traffic marshals under the Bauchi State Road Traffic Agency (BAROTA), marking a significant milestone in enhancing road safety, traffic management, and youth employment in the state.
During the Passing Out Parade ceremony, Governor Mohammed commended the cadets for their discipline, dedication, and hard work, describing them as a new generation of leaders ready to transform road safety and traffic management across the state.
He emphasized BAROTA's crucial role in addressing road transport challenges, enforcing traffic laws, ensuring safety, and managing traffic flow.
The governor reiterated his administration's commitment to supporting BAROTA with necessary resources, infrastructure, and continuous training. He also unveiled plans to expand the workforce to 2,000 personnel, stressing the importance of integrity, professionalism, and compassion in their operations.
Governor Mohammed cautioned the newly inaugurated officers against indiscipline, corruption, and abuse of power, assuring them of operational autonomy while urging focus on their responsibilities.
He directed local government chairmen to collaborate with BAROTA to establish offices in their respective areas, ensuring effective service delivery across the state.
Earlier, in his welcome addressed, the Director General of BAROTA, Rtd Air Commander Tijjani Baba Gamawa, outlined the next steps for the 500 cadets and traffic marshals who graduated from their 21-day training program. These officers will be posted to various areas to support reducing road accidents and enforcing traffic laws.
The training program aimed to equip the cadets with theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as moral guidance, to ensure they conduct themselves properly while on duty. Notably, the batch consisted of 496 male and four female cadets, selected from 323 wards.
During the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Geldo Technical and Engineering Service Limited who was the consultant firms commended Governor Bala Mohammed for providing job opportunities to the families of the cadet officers.
However, he also highlighted the need for more female cadets, given the current shortage, and appealed for patrol vehicles to support the agency's operations.
