A member of the federal House of Representatives, Hon Kwamoti Laori, has visited flood disaster areas in Numan, Demsa, and Lamurde LGAs under his Constituency to assess the damage done to farmlands and houses.
The lawmaker also vowed to present a bill on lasting solutions to the annual cause of heavy floodings in the country.
Hon Kwamoti who promised to look into the plight of the people in his constituency, said until lasting solutions are found, the people will continue to suffer the devastating effects of community flooding every rainy season of the year.
Hon Kwamoti Laori who is a member Representing Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency at the National Assembly has recently completed an on-the- spot assessment tour of virtually all communities affected by mass flooding in Adamawa State under his constituency with a view to ameliorating their pathetic situation.
The law maker who had prior to his visit to the affected communities donated relief materials to the victims, also sponsored officials of the Ecological Project Office in Abuja to visit the affected areas in his constituency and assess the situation for a possible federal government intervention.
It will be recalled that the Reps member had severally presented motions on the floor of the House of Representatives on early preparation to mitigate the impact of flood disaster in the Benue. To this end, Hon Laori has made a strong case on the need to construct a buffer Dam at Dasin-Fufore Local Government Area to reduce the volume of water released from Lagdo Dam.
The lawmaker, has, among many requests, also asked for the need to provide relief materials and drugs to victims of flood disaster, etc.
In the same vein, he has written letters to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA); the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development and the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). He has also paid advocacy visits to relevant Ministries, Department and Agencies seeking Federal Government Intervention to mitigate and end the perennial flood disaster that has plagued the people of his Constituency over the years.
Laori posited that the consequences of destruction of lives and livelihood which has become the norm during rainy season must be curbed to its barest minimum.
Many of affected inhabitants who could not hide their joys at his prompt and consistent response to their plight, have continue to drum up support for him, noting that the overall efforts of the federal lawmaker are worth commendation. NNL.
