  • * Says We Must Renegotiate Our Differences
  • Calls For Return Of Peace

By David Odama (In Lafia, Nasarawa State)

EKye Community in Nasarawa, on Thursday, came down heavily on the stakeholders and leaders of the community for fueling communal crisis among the people.

Speaking at a peace summit 2022, Chairman of the peace and unity Forum, Comrade Godspower Ede, said the community observed with great dismay absence of unity and the sharp disagreement among stakeholders including politics, ethnic and religious biases being propagated by the stakeholders.

According to the peace Committee Chairman, the tendencies of the stakeholders and leaders of the community have polarized the area as the action and attitude of those involved has set the community backward in the area of peace, development and economic advancement.

He said the summit is to bridge the gap, bring together and to change the narrative, adding that the communal and ethnic conflicts ravaging the community has set the community back several years.

Ede added that the committee would embark on sensitization and awareness campaigns to mainstream the message to the rural people to stem the growth of enemity and seed of discord in the area.

"The peace meeting is to reduce unnecessary tension, acrimony associated with the political activities, tackle issues of cultural, ethnic and religious bigotry, to unite our people so that we can develop a strong leadership structure that will be the voice of EKye people anywhere in the world", the peace Chairman declared.

In his remark, Chairman of the occasion, Dr Lawani Aboki, called for peace among the EKye people, adding that no development can take place in an atmosphere of disunity.

"We need peace, we can not be fighting and quarreling and expect development to take place. We must embrace and accommodate each other irrespective of our differences"

The organization of this maiden edition of the peace Summit will mark the end of the hostility, disagreement, backwardness of our community. I urged all to collectively work towards the realization of the needed peace in our community". Dr Aboki stated. NNL.
