By Celestine Okafor (Editor-in-Chief)

Action Alliance (AA) gubernatorial candidate in the November 6 governorship poll in Anambra state, Chief Ben Etiaba, has expressed deep sadness over the passage, on Monday, of Ezenwanyi Chief (Mrs) Victoria Aguiyi Ironsi, Nigeria's former First lady and wife of the slain first military Head of State of Nigeria, Major General JTU Aguiyi Ironsi.

Etiaba, whose family is obviously close to the Ironsis, described Lady Victoria Ironsi death at near age of 98 as sad and a great loss to the Igbo race.

In a brief statement brief tribute he issued on Monday August 23, 2021, shortly after the news of her demise filtered out, Etiaba stated that Mrs Aguiyi-Ironsi will "forever be remembered and celebrated for the way she lived a dignified life, and for various selfless roles she played after the death of her beloved husband". The governorship candidate said the ex- First Lady's passage is indeed "a sad one, a sad one indeed; the death of Mrs Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi, wife of late Nigerian Head of State, Major General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi".

He urged the Ironsi family to take consolation in the fact that late General Ironsi's wife "was a woman of peace and goodwill. My heartfelt condolence goes out to her family. "This is a great loss to the entire Igbo nation and her legacy will forever be cherished", Etiaba stated. NNL.
