Ahead of the forthcoming party congress across the federation, an All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Reps member in Sokoto State, Honorable Abdullahi Saleme, has cautioned that there should be justice, equity, and fairness in the conduct of the Congress exercise and even after.
Saleme, who is the National Assembly House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Poverty Alleviation, stated this in Sokoto when the APC coordinators from across the 23 local government areas of the state met in his house at the weekend.
According to him, the assumption that APC in Sokoto State has a faction is not true, hence, the need to work as a team. He said the gathering tagged "Sokoto Vision 2023", was for like minds, noting that their concern was that of the State and not for personal interest.
Salaeme stressed that any attempt at imposing a governorship candidate on the APC come 2023 by anybody, will likely potent grave danger for the party. He averred that some members of the APC are hiding their preferred candidate for the 2023 gubernatorial election considering the fact that they will only but help in de-marketing the party.
"Ahead of the forthcoming ward congresses of our great party, the APC, our concern is Sokoto and not any personal interest. We have it on good account that others are hiding their preferred candidate.
"But we want to make it clear for all that we are not behind any imposed candidate come 2023, as some candidates will only help in de-marketing our party, the APC, State, and religion"
Salame who urged party faithful that gathered in his house to be vigilant and counter any act of imposition in the ward congress level, however, averred that "nobody can expel him from the APC", adding that "We are not for consensus in the forthcoming congress, except when done with honesty. NNL.
