  • NUC Approves Establishment of College of Medical Sciences and Health Technology

The Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Niger state will be graduating a total of 5, 297, including 111 First Class, while 153 scholsrs will receive Doctorate Degrees (PhDs), the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Farouk Adamu Kuta has said.

Only about 6, 000 students enjoy hostel spaces out of close to 30, 000 students population of the FUT, Minna, while others survive accommodation related challenges at the mercy of exploitative landlords and their agents.

Despite accommodation difficulties, the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Kuta said has approved the establishment of the College of Medical Sciences and Health Technology and the pioneer students commenced academic activities in the 2025/2026 session in five programmes.

The Vice Chancellor, briefing journalists ahead of the 34th Convocation/43rd Founder's day which took place at the main campus on Monday, said the school is not unaware of the transportation and accommodation difficulties with attendant risks both staff and especially students coming from Bosso campus face on a daily basis.

Prof. Kuta said it is because of inadequate hostel spaces that the citadel is seeking partnership with willing developers to provide more accommodation on campus in order to reduce risks and other inconveniences associated with staying off campus.

Speaking on improvements made so far, the Vice Chancellor said the school accomodate only 2, 800 students before he assumed office, but gladly the situation has changed as it has been able to provide hostel spaces for a little above 6, 000 students.

The Vice Chancellor however lamented the difficulties accommodating students on campus, adding that the university spend about N80 million on electricity alone while taxes is also becoming too burdensome for the school.

The new programmes, according to the Vice Chancellor are; MBBS Medicine and Surgery, Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) and Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biotechnology, Procurement and Logistics Management.

Kuta who attributed achievements made since his assumption of office to existing cordial working relationship between the staff and management gave other lined-up activities for the convocation/founder's day week long event to include prayers in mosque on Friday and in the church on Sunday

While appreciating the media for always being a dependable partner, the Vice Chancellor also told them that there will be exhibition and projects commissioning, convocation lecture and as well, finals for the recreational football match. NNL.
