Popular musician, David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has commenced another round of his famed annual charity donations to the less privileged, especially the unfortunate children in orphanages.
The singer, under his charity platform, Davido Charity Foundation for Ophanages, has just donated the sum of N237m to 424 Ophanages and Paroche Reach Out Foundation for the Prevention of Drug Abuse.
The donation represents the 2022 annual Davido Birthday Gift to Ophanages by the Ede, Osun state-born singer.
In November 2021, the Nigerian top crooner received huge financial donations from most of his fans and billionaire friends like Obi Cubana, Femi Otedola, etc, in celebration of his birthday.
But in a smart move that even puzzled his donors and well-wishers, Davido chose to donate all the gifts meant for his alleged birthday that year to those he felt that need help mostly in society.
At that time, Davido said on his verified Instagram handle, that the total amount of the donation is N200,000,000. He also made a personal donation of N50,000,000 to make a total figure of N250,000,000 and said this money will all go as donations to orphanages across Nigeria.
A five-man disbursement committee – with three professors and one pastor – was therefore set up by Davido to see to the sharing of his donations.
Davido said his goal is to make the donation a yearly tradition in celebration of his birthday and to give back to those in need. It is perhaps, in fulfilment of that promise that made the singer to donate the sum of N237m to 424 Ophanages and Paroche Reach Out Foundation for the Prevention of Drug Abuse this year.
Davido, during the maiden edition of his now annual donation in 2021, also on his Instagram page, appreciated everyone that contributed to the cause, explaining how the idea behind the donation started like a causal conversation.
He called on his fans and friends to continue to support him on the mission of giving back to society. Then, he called out his friends to support his 29th Birthday on November 21, 2021.
The artist challenged his friends and fans to send him N1 million, saying he has always been in a position of lifting others and now he wanted them to return the favour.
Within the first 10 minutes of announcing the challenge on his Insta stories, the pop star received N7million and went on to say that the goal was N100million. (additional reports from channel tv news). NNL.
