Imo state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, on Friday, announced to Ndi Eze and other stakeholders a one million Naira support for each of the 655 Autonomous Communities in the state, to enable them establish or reinforce their Vigilante groups.
A statement by Favour Ngozi Ernest, the media aide to the Imo State Commissioner for Homeland Security and Vigilante Affairs, Dr Ugorji Okechukwu Ugorji, the announcement followed a proposal from the Ministry of Homeland Security and Vigilante Affairs (MOHSAVA) in the State EXCO on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.
The proposal termed a web of Community-based Vigilante Groups (CVGs), is designed to augment the efforts of federal and state security agencies in mitigating security challenges in the state. The Governor's announcement was also meant to invigorate Imo State communities' efforts in self protection.
According to the Commissioner, Dr Ugorji, the Governor's announcement is congruent with MOHSAVA's whole-of-community plan for security in Imo State. NNL.
