The renewed efforts by the Nigerian army to rid the country of Boko-Haram and armed bandits, have yielded results with the killing of eight suspected members of terror group in New-Bussa, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger state.
The dare-devil armed men, according to reports, had attacked the Borgu Army barracks with the intent on rescuing their members in the military’s captivity, but were swiftly repelled by the gallant soldiers.
NIGERIAN NEWSLEADER Newspaper learnt that while eight Boko-Haram members were gunned down during exchange of fire power, three others were apprehended but there was no casualty on the side of the soldiers except those those with various degrees of injuries.
The attack on Saturday night through Sunday morning started at about 12 midnight. He said this development brought the intruders face-to-face with soldiers who fearlessly defended the military fortress from the intruders as they made their way to free their members captured by the Nigerian military.
The soldiers gallantly fought back as they quickly sent for back-up from the Nigerian air-force whose support helped in neutralizing the armed men whose exact number could not be ascertained as at the time of this report.
“They came in their number, it was very late at midnight and as such, it was not that easy for anyone to know exactly the number of the attackers, but they were really dealt with”, a source from the area said.
The source further hinted that, “While the gun battle lasted, some of the Boko-Haram members retreated into the darkness with various degrees of injuries. The soldiers have also tightened up security around the barracks to forestall possible reprisal attacks”. NNL.
