Nasarawa State Government, on Tuesday, pledged to be in the forefront in the advocacy for constitutional role of traditional rulers in the country.

This formed part of remarks by the Deputy Governor of the State, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, when he played host to some members of the state traditional council led by its Chairman and Emir of Lafia, retired Justice Sidi Bage Mohammed, at his residence in Doma.

Akabe who described the traditional rulers and the institution as a unifying factor and bridge-builders, added that traditional rulers have played and are still working tirelessly to keep the country in peace.

He said in view of the significant roles the monarchs play to ensure the unity of Nigeria, they would not go unnoticed as Nasarawa State government will continue to champion the advocacy for the institutionalization of their constitutional role in the country.

According to the deputy governor, Governor Abdullahi Sule, has brought attributes that thrived in private sector into the public service, saying the governor's hardworking disposition, open mindedness, God-fearing nature and firm believe in the rule of law has helped in shaping the state and make things work.

"The visit by the traditional rulers will strengthen the responsibility of the state towards ensuring equity and fairness in all government activities and increase the cordial relationship with the monarchs and their subjects.

"As Nasarawa State is blessed to have the caliber of royal fathers who have been partners in progress, we have resolve to be front-runners in constitutional amendment that will provide the instruments to empower the institution.

He described the traditional rulers visit as unprecedented, noting that governor Abdullahi Sule administration remains indebted to the traditional rulers and the entire state for the support and encouragement it received within the three and half years the Governor was in the saddle in the state.

Dr Akabe however lauded the traditional rulers for their peace building efforts which has contributed in bringing stability to Nasarawa state and the nation at large.

Earlier, Chairman of the Nasarawa state traditional council and Emir of Lafia, retired Justice Sidi Bage Mohammed, had appreciated the state government for its efforts at placing traditional rulers in their rightful position through its advocacy for a constitutional role for traditional rulers.

The monarch reiterated their resolve to stand by the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule and his deputy, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe in their efforts at maintaining peace and stability in the state. NNL.
