As part of its effort to build self-confidence in women and lift them out of poverty, a non-governmental organization, SOHO24 Foundation, in partnership with Emerging Entrepreneurial Cooperative Society, has trained a group of rural women in adult literacy, and vocational skills, and financial literacy.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the rural women trained in Abuja recently, the CEO/Founder of SOHO24 Foundation, Ambassador Christy Opara, said the initiative was informed by her desire to build self-confidence in women and children by equipping them with relevant knowledge and skills that will lift them out of poverty.

Opara, an Olympic medallist, who noted that the foundation has empowered over 300 persons since its establishment. It however called on organizations and government at all levels to partner with the foundation to enable it do more.

She also commended the graduands for the patience and endurance exhibited during the training and assured them of the foundation’s continuous support.

In his remarks, the Convener of Emerging Entrepreneurial Cooperative Society, Eberechi Marcus, commended Ambassador Opara for the initiative and assured that his organization would continue to partner with SOHO24 Foundation in its development programmes. Marcus also urged the beneficiaries to utilise the skills and knowledge acquired positively.

In her keynote address, the Managing Director of Africa Independent Television (AIT), Dr (Mrs) Tosin Dokpesi, congratulated the beneficiaries on their graduation and charged them to use the skills and knowledge acquired to better the life of others.

Mrs Dokpesi who was represented by Adaora Onyechere of AIT, also commended SOHO24 Foundation for the initiative and assured that DAAR Communications would continue to engage with the foundation to reach other partners.

One of the beneficiaries, Grace Jonathan, who spoke on behalf of her fellow graduands, expressed gratitude to SOHO24 Foundation for giving her the platform to learn and acquire basic skills, testifying that she was able to read and write through the adult literacy programme. NNL.
