A lecturer with the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Dr Muhammed Sajo, has said that the legacies of the first democratically elected President of Nigeria, late Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari, will forever remain aglow in the minds of generations yet unborn as one of the few incurruptible president's the nation ever had.

Dr Sajo who stated this during the extra ordinary Congress of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Sokoto Council added that, the late president gave his all for the progress and unity of the country.

The erudite scholar therefore admonished all Nigerians including those shouldered with leadership responsibilities to strive towards emulating the late President Shagari whose passion for a vibrantly united and prosperous Nigeria reminded aglow even until his death.

Earlier, in his opening remarks, Sokoto state chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Dalhatu Abdullahi Safiyal Magori, said the extra ordinary Congress was called to deliberate in respect of the union's plans to organize a Maiden Edition of late President Shehu Shagari Memorial Lecture"

According to him, the event will feature the promotion of his legacies and cherished ideals such as education, especially Sciences, History, Literary works, Politics as well as holistic documentation of his works for generations yet unborn to learn from it.

Comrade Dalhatu who went memory lane, said the late President was a man of many parts. He added that while alive, Shagari was a teacher of repute, a politicians of uncommon character, an administrator of cherished repute and an executive of unmatched pedigree.

Continuing, Comrade Dalhatu said, "'The 25th of this month is the birthday of late President Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari GCFR Turakin Sokoto and the Union want to use this rare opportunity to immortalize his name by organizing a Maiden Edition of, "SHEHU SHAGARI MEMORIAL LECTURE".

He also said, "The event would run concurrently with the side events and Fund Raising for the promotion of his Legacies and Ideals, such as Education, especially Sciences, History, Literary Works and Politics. There will be documentation of his works for the new generations to learn as well as a Posthumous Award to late Usman Faruk, the first military Governor of the then North Western State, who sacrificed his personal building to the Union as donation in 1992, after it is already being used by the NUJ as it's State Secretariat".
