The Kwankwasiyya Movement has urged the Kano State House of Assembly and the Kano State Government to reconsider their moves to impeach the state’s Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, warning that such action could deepen political divisions and undermine the mandate given by the people.

In a statement on Friday, spokesperson of the movement, Dr. Habibu Saleh, described the impeachment process as troubling and cautioned political actors against actions that could be perceived as politically motivated.

Saleh noted that many residents of Kano State were closely observing the unfolding situation and expressed concern that the move might be driven more by political interests than genuine constitutional necessity.

He emphasised that while the constitution empowers lawmakers to exercise oversight, impeachment remains one of the most serious powers available to a legislature and should not be used for political convenience.

According to him, impeachment should never become a tool for settling political disagreements or altering political alliances but must be guided strictly by justice, fairness and the interest of the people.

The Kwankwasiyya spokesman also reminded the state leadership that the mandate that brought the current administration to power was the result of collective efforts by thousands of supporters across the 44 local government areas of Kano.

Saleh said the victory that produced the present government was not the achievement of any single individual but the outcome of the sacrifices, loyalty and unity of Kwankwasiyya supporters throughout the state.

He warned that actions perceived as targeting key figures within the administration could send the wrong signal to supporters who worked tirelessly to secure electoral victory.

The movement therefore urged members of the Kano State House of Assembly to exercise their constitutional responsibilities with caution, independence and a strong sense of accountability to the electorate.

Saleh further warned that political actions seen as persecution could heighten tensions within the state’s political landscape, noting that history has shown that when power is used in ways considered unjust or vindictive, citizens eventually express their verdict through democratic means.

He reaffirmed the movement’s commitment to peace, democratic stability and the protection of the political mandate given by the people of Kano.

According to him, all political actors must act with restraint and wisdom, bearing in mind the sacrifices of millions of supporters whose collective efforts brought the present government into office. NNL.
