Several structures including residential and business spaces have been destroyed by windstorm accompanying heavy downpour in Mokwa, Mokwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger state.

The incident which occured on Sunday, according to eye witness account blew off many residential buildings and business premises causing damages worth several millions of Naira.

This is coming barely a year when the people are yet to recover from heavy flooding thar ravaged the area, killing hundreds of people and properties worth several millions of Naira destroyed.

It was learnt that the heavy downpour which started at about twelve midnight on Sunday was accompanied with stormy wind which pulled down structures and rendering many people homelesss.

Though no record of casualties, one of the residents who spoke to our correspondent on phone about the disaster said many of the people are homeless and therefore pleading for state government's urgent assistance.

According to the eye witness who gave her name simply as Biliqis, "Many people are without shelter over their heads sonce yesterday, so we are pleading for urgent help from the state government and other well spirited Nigerians to come and help us".

Meanwhile, findings indicates that the recent rainstorm which have forced many to take shelter under public facilities and abandoned buildings have once more thrown up accommodation crisis in Mokwa town and environs.

Chairman of Mokwa Local Government, Alhaji Abdullahi Muregi confirmed the incident in a memo to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) and other relevant authorities about developments in the area. NNL.
