The federal government has approved Thursday, April 11, as additional public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr.

The announcement was made on Tuesday in Abuja, in a statement by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr Aishetu Ndayako.She said the extension followed the approval by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Ndayako said while congratulating muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan fasting, the minister described the exercise as one of spiritual rejuvenation.

The minister, she said, restated the commitment of the President Bola Tinubu’s government to ensuring a safe and prosperous nation. Recall that the government had earlier announced Tuesday and Wednesday as public holiday for the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr.

The non-sighting of the moon on Monday, however, made it impossible for the celebration of the festival which comes upon sighting of the new moon.

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, had on Monday declared Tuesday as the 30th day of Ramadan and Wednesday, Eid-El-Fitr.

The announcement was made on Monday in a statement by the chairman of the chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs of the Sultanate Council Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Janaidu.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who made the declaration on behalf of the federal government congratulated all Muslim Ummah for the successful completion of the fasting in the holy month of Ramadan.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo called on Muslim Ummmah to imbibe and practice the virtues that entails kindness, love, tolerance, peace, good neighbourliness, compassion as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).

In a statement signed by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, urged Nigerians to continue in the spirit of unity in order to improve and achieve peace and oneness in the country.

The Minister wished all Muslim Ummah a happy Eid-el-Fitr celebration and prays that the peace, blessings and favour of Allah be with everyone. (With additional reports from FrontPage news). NNL.
