The people of Oguta Ameshi in Imo state, South East, Nigeria, under the auspices of Oguta Community Development Union (OCDU) Abuja branch, will today hold the 2024 edition of their annual convention and end of the year celebration.

The event which is taking place at the premises of the Public Service Institute along Kubwa expressway Abuja, kicks-off at 10am with eminent dignitaries and distinguished sons and daughters of Oguta town including their well wishers and other invited guests in attendance.

Chairman of the OCDU Abuja branch, Mr Ikemefuna Ohanyere, said on Thursday that this year's end of the year event promises to be great fun and memorable as there will be plenty of assorted food to eat including exquisite Oguta traditional delicacies, drinks to entertain guests and distinguished invitees among other good offerings.

According to Ohanyere, this year's event was carefully planned to recognize and honour sons and daughters of the community who have distinguished themselves in their selfless service and contributions to Oguta town otherwise known and referred to as 'Obodo giri giri".

So far, about ten persons have been unanimously selected by the union for various categories of the award of honour. There will be an unveiling of a new masquerade, cultural dances and paper presentations in celebration of the well known rich culture of Oguta Ameshi including other side attractions.

Eminent sons and daughters of Oguta like the former deputy Governor of Imo state, Hon. Gerald Irona, Charles Oputa (aka Charley Boy), etc.
