Dependable sources revealed to NIGERIAN NEWSLEADER Newspaper that the police officer in charge of the Jimeta Shopping Complex resisted the arrest of the illegal immigrants and he too was finally bundled to the cell of the Nigerian Immigration Service headquarters on Numan road in Jimeta, Adamawa State.
Mohammed Ya'uba pointed out that following a tip off that the shopping Complex was milling with illegal immigrants, they swooped on the areas arresting 10 Chadians, one Cameroonian, and 14 Nigeriens who came into the country illegally without any valid documents and were doing business at the shopping Complex for long before their eventual arrest.
He said on getting the information, the Nigerian Immigration Service conducted an investigation and moved to effect the arrest which was blocked by the Police Station Officer in the shopping complex who was allegedly using the illegal immigrants to do suspicious businesses.
Sources in the complex said the illegal immigrants where receiving special favours from the police officer who provided them with escorts and all round security.
Mohammed Ya'uba noted that only Immigration has the rights to determined who is an illegal immigrants or not but the police officer who also prevented arrest was later bundled into the NIS vehicle and driven off to the headquarters of the NIS on Jimeta- Numan road.
